What we collect

Peer Comparison stores rounded range brackets only—never an exact salary. Expectation Check stores the low and high endpoints of each side's range to compute overlap—not a single salary figure. We store minimal metadata (flow type, bracket width, room expiry). We also store the coarse channel label on the link the room's creator arrived through: which of our pages they landed on, and any short campaign label we put on a link we shared (for example a social post or outreach batch). These are labels we choose for our own links, not anything derived from you; their only purpose is to tell which channels bring comparisons that get completed. They are never shown to the other participant, and—like the range brackets—they are kept with our usage history rather than deleted when the room expires. Your place in a room is a random participant token in your browser—not your name or email. If you opt in for product updates, we store your email on a separate waitlist (for example after a result, when you hit the open-rooms soft cap, or via an optional interest prompt). Waitlist signup does not include a room or participant token, so we cannot tie your waitlist email to a specific room or submission.

What we never do

We do not sell or share individual compensation data with employers. We do not run open pools or benchmarking across users. Peer results never include the other person's range. BallPark is not pay-transparency compliance software or a substitute for employer disclosure duties. When we change how results are computed, we review the change for cross-participant leakage before shipping.

Product updates (waitlist)

If you join the waitlist, we may email you about BallPark product updates. We do not sell your email or join it to room submissions. To stop receiving these emails, reply STOP to the message or email hello@ballpark.tools and we will remove you from the waitlist. Submitting your email on the waitlist form is your opt-in; we do not send a separate confirmation link today.

Retention

Rooms expire after a configurable time-to-live (TTL) (default 7 days). Expired rooms return a not-found response and are no longer accessible to either participant. We do not retain room data for resale or market reports, and we never aggregate comparison results across rooms. After expiry, data may be kept internally in archived form for product-usage counting only; it is not surfaced to anyone or used to identify either participant. Waitlist emails are kept until you ask us to remove them or we retire the waitlist.

Analytics

Production uses cookieless Vercel Web Analytics on page views, plus session-local A/B content experiments (assignment in sessionStorage for that browser session only—no persistent tracking cookie, no third-party ad tracking). Room tokens in URLs are redacted in analytics paths. Submit and result API calls are not tracked by third-party analytics scripts.

Accounts

No account is required to create or join a room.
